Major work to rid the foyer and back of the theatre of dry rot

Official change of name from Sunderland Drama Club to Royalty Theatre Sunderland

Redecorated the theatre exterior

Enlarged the proscenium arch
Redecorated and installed drapes, plinths, and chairs to the Studio Theatre
Completely upgraded the main theatre lighting stock
Installed a computerised stage lighting control”

January 1st 2000 David Parfitt (producer of ‘Shakespeare in Love’) took on the role of Patron of The Royalty Theatre
